Quincy Bright is a man of mystery. Even to those closest to him, his actions, his words, and especially his music, is always a surprise. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, Quincy has never been one to follow trends. Quincy’s musical influences varied from Curtis Mayfield to Kurtis Blow, Prince Buster to The Small Faces. Each stage of his musical development has permeated deep into his music, and it shows.
At age 15, when a local punk band needed a bass player, Quincy Bright rose to the challenge and quickly learned he was destined for music. After kicking around New Jersey playing in different bands, he and roommate at the time, Jeff Silverman, started Inspector 7, a NY ska outfit that gained a huge cult following during the late nineties. They toured extensively throughout the states until it was time for Quincy Bright to part ways with the band. Back in NY, he began recording bass and drums for Soul Fire Records and then TRUTH & SOUL. He can be heard on recordings by The Fabulous Three, The Expressions, WQLJ, and JD & The Evil’s Dynamite Band to name a few.
However, aside from live performances and the many studio recordings for Soul Fire Records and TRUTH & SOUL, Quincy has always had a passion for the privacy of bedroom recording. An avid record collector and aficionado in all types of music, he had begun honing his MPC skills early on in his musical career. However, Quincy goes beyond just sampling and layering drums. He adds vocals, bass, guitar, keys and sometimes flute to his unique blend of sampled hip hop/soul. This gives his compositions a unique, human element that is lacking from many types of programmed music. Quincy Bright always keeps everyone guessing. With thousands of songs already recorded in the short time he has been making music, it is hard to keep up with such a musically inspiring character…but we’ll try.
